Test your internet speed before a big send.
Measure your upload and download speed, and see how long a send would take on this connection.
Uses up to about 316 MB of data — on a phone, Wi-Fi is best.
Measured against Cloudflare’s network.
Why upload speed matters.
Upload speed decides how long a send takes, and on home broadband it’s usually far below download. A 10 GB video takes over an hour to go up at 20 Mb/s, and about 13 minutes at 100 Mb/s.
The test moves real data to and from Cloudflare’s nearest server. That measures your connection, not the route a send to SendThis takes — so a real send can take longer. Cloudflare sees your IP address, as any website does, and SendThis keeps none of the results.
Upload, not just download
It’s the number that decides how long a send takes — and usually the slower of the two. Both are measured, one after the other.
Ping under load
Your ping at rest and while the line is busy. A big gap between the two means calls can stutter while a send is going up.
Time to send
Your upload speed, turned into how long a send takes — easier to plan around than megabits per second.
How the speed test works.
- 01
Press Start
Nothing is measured until you press it. The test moves real data, so on a phone, Wi-Fi is best.
- 02
Both directions are measured
Ping first, then download, then upload — real data, to and from Cloudflare’s nearest server.

Download, upload, ping and ping under load, and how long a send takes at that upload speed.
Questions.
Why is my upload so much slower than my download?
Most home broadband is built that way: cable and DSL lines give far more of their capacity to downloads. Fibre is often much closer to even in both directions.
What upload speed do I need to send large files?
It depends on how much you send and how long you’re willing to wait. At 25 Mb/s, 1 GB takes a little over five minutes; at 100 Mb/s, under a minute and a half.
Why is my result lower than the speed I pay for?
Wi-Fi, other devices on the network, a VPN and the time of day all cut into it. For the closest reading to your line speed, test over a cable with nothing else running.
What is ping under load?
Your ping while the line is busy downloading or uploading — the test shows the worse of the two. If it’s far above your ping at rest, calls and games can stutter whenever something big is moving.
